The Mayan’s Serpent – Guatemala, Print with Wooden Frame, Home Decor

After three intense days of trekking through the humid Guatemalan jungle in 30°C heat, I finally reached the remote ruins of El Mirador—an ancient Maya city once thriving between the 6th century BC and the 1st century AD. Today, the site is surrounded by dense forest, where monkeys, foxes, insects, and snakes have reclaimed the land.

Near one of the many still-uncovered pyramids, which are being uncovered by archaeologists to this day, I spotted this vibrant green parrot snake (Leptophis praestans), gracefully weaving its way through the branches. Though non-venomous, its presence was powerful—an elegant reminder of Kukulkan, the feathered serpent deity of Maya mythology.
