High in the mountains of central Kyrgyzstan, on the shores of Son Kol Lake, I spent the night in a traditional yurt camp. After sharing a warm and hearty Kyrgyz dinner made by my lovely host family, I stepped outside into the icy night—and was met with the most breathtaking night sky I had ever seen.
With no tripod at hand, I anchored my camera to the ground using a stone, determined to capture the Milky Way as it unfolded above the gently lit yurts. A single bulb hanging near the host‘s yurt cast just enough light to bring out the textures of the nomadic shelters—creating a soft contrast between earth and cosmos.
